The best tools for angel investors in the UK (2026): one place for the whole job

Key takeaways
  • An angel has four jobs, and most tools do one. Track the holdings, run the diligence, keep the reliefs, talk to the founders. Score a tool on all four before you pay for it.
  • Most of the market serves funds. Beauhurst, Visible, Rundit and Harmonic sell to investment teams. The individual angel is left stitching a spreadsheet to a chat window.
  • AI earns its place on the diligence job. Reading a year of filings, the courts, sanctions lists and the founders' histories is an evening by hand. A model that reads the register does it in minutes, with citations.

Let AI do the checking, then keep watching
  • Run due diligence on any UK company. Nine AI agents read the registers, the courts and the founders' histories. Every figure cited.
  • Add a holding to monitoring. Every filing on it, the week it lands, with what it means for your stake.
  • Upload your EIS and SEIS spreadsheet. Export it as CSV. Tero maps the columns, starts every clock and chases the certificates.

A good angel holds twenty or more companies. Each one files accounts, raises again, changes its board, and sometimes dies without writing to anyone. Each cheque came after a decision that deserved an evening of checking. Each holding carries EIS or SEIS paperwork with its own clocks. And every founder needs a reply now and then. That is the job. The tools for angel investors on the market mostly do one part of it. This guide sets out the four parts, then scores seven tools against them, plus the integrations behind the work and the price. Tero is ours and sits the same tests as everyone else.

Teroours

AI due diligence, monitoring and reliefs from the filed record
9.2/10
11 of 12 points

Give it a company name, a website or a deck. Tero builds an evidence pack from Companies House, the FCA register, sanctions lists, The Gazette, court judgments, web traffic and the live web. Nine AI research agents run over it in parallel, one per module, then a second agent challenges each claim before the report states it. Every figure links to its source. After the cheque, the same engine watches every filing on every holding, prices the dilution from the SH01, and runs the EIS and SEIS clocks. Founders can pitch you through your Tero link; there is no update channel.

SeedLegals for Investors

The cap table you already sit on
4.2/10
5 of 12 points

If your companies raise through SeedLegals, their cap tables live there. The investor membership gives you current shareholdings, exit modelling and the certificates issued on the platform. Complete for those companies, blind to the rest, and silent on any company you have not yet backed.

Holdings
Companies on SeedLegals only

For
  • Real shareholdings, not estimates
  • Certificates already in place

EIS Traaker by Haatch

A free personal relief record
3.3/10
4 of 12 points

Built by the EIS fund manager Haatch. Log each investment with company, share class, shares, HMRC references and fund; record certificate status, compliance-statement dates and carry-back elections. It calculates the relief and shows the three-year qualifying period. One job, done neatly, entirely by hand.

3 of 12 points

ChatGPT and Claude

A reasoning partner for the deck
2.5/10
3 of 12 points

Paste the deck and ask: is the market-size claim consistent, what does the cap table imply, what would you ask the founders. Both reason well over long documents. Neither reads Companies House, the FCA register or the courts unless you fetch the documents yourself, and neither links a figure to a filing. Nothing is tracked after the conversation ends.

Startup Due Dil

Ten agents over the deck
1.7/10
2 of 12 points

Ten AI agents read a pitch deck, supporting documents and public sources and return a structured report in about ten minutes. Built mainly for VC and PE firms, with an angel plan on the side. It reads what you give it and skips the UK register, and it does nothing after the report.

Holdings

For
  • Fast structured output
  • Handles the deck well
Against
  • No UK register depth

What UK angel investors need from their tools

One place to track every holding. Twenty positions across four tax years means twenty filing histories to watch. The confirmation statement shows your percentage. The SH01 shows the next round and your dilution. The Gazette shows the strike-off. An angel wants the news on each company, the progress since the cheque, and what each event means for their stake, without opening Companies House twenty times.

One tool to run due diligence, ideally powered by AI. Before the cheque: the register, the filed valuation against the pitched one, the FCA register if the business claims a regulated activity, sanctions lists, court judgments, and a background check on each founder's other companies. Done by hand this is most of a day, which is why most angels check two sources or none. This is the job where AI earns its place, provided it reads the primary record and cites it.

One tool to track EIS and SEIS reliefs. Certificates to chase, a claim window that closes, a three-year clock that claws the relief back, a two-year clock for inheritance tax, and a loss-relief deadline that runs whether or not you noticed the company had died. See the best EIS trackers for that job on its own.

One channel to the startups. Founder updates, documents, the occasional introduction. Angels who invest through a network get this from the network. Angels who invest alone get it from email, or from nothing.

The gap in the market

Plenty of software serves institutional investors. Beauhurst lists the UK data from £24,500 a year on its public-sector price list. Visible collects founder updates for over 950 funds. Rundit builds LP reports. Harmonic and Specter feed sourcing teams. None of it prices for a person writing £25,000 cheques, and none of it covers the four jobs above together. The individual angel is left with a spreadsheet, a chat window, a folder of PDFs and a habit of checking Companies House on Sunday night. What they ask for, when you ask them, is one place.

Six tests

  • Portfolio monitoring in one place, with news. Every holding, the filings and the press on each, and what each event means for your stake, without you typing it in.
  • Due diligence on new startups. The filed round, the ownership, the founders' other companies, the FCA and sanctions checks, the market and the competition, with the source of each figure shown.
  • EIS and SEIS relief tracker. Certificates, claim windows, the three-year and two-year clocks.
  • Communication with the startups. A way for founders to reach you, and for updates and documents to flow.
  • Integrations. Whether the tool reads Companies House, the FCA register, The Gazette, the courts, sanctions lists and market data such as Semrush, or only what you paste in.
  • Priced for an individual angel. Free or a few pounds a month, without a team licence.

  • Each test scores full, partial or none. Twelve points is a tool that does the whole job for one person.

Where the tools for angel investors stop

Three things no tool changes. You claim relief on your own tax return, and it depends on your circumstances. Advance assurance belongs to the company. And a clean check is a finding. It guarantees nothing: most private companies publish very little, and the skill is separating "not disclosed" from "contradicts the pitch". Information, not investment or tax advice.
    From the register

See it on a real filing history

Three UK companies whose priced rounds Tero has read from Companies House, with implied valuation at each allotment.

    Questions this guide answers

What tools do UK angel investors actually use?
The tools for angel investors that turn up most. Tero for diligence, monitoring and reliefs. AngelTrack for founder updates and documents. SeedLegals for Investors where the companies raise there. Haatch's EIS Traaker for a relief log. Dealum inside a network. ChatGPT or Claude on the deck.
Can ChatGPT or Claude do due diligence on a UK startup?
They read what you paste and what they can search, and they reason well over it. They do not read Companies House filings, the FCA register, sanctions lists or the courts unless you fetch those yourself, and their answers do not link to filed documents. Use them for questions about a deck. They do not verify.
Is there one tool that does everything for an angel investor?
Nearly. Tero covers holdings, diligence, reliefs and the integrations from the register, and founders can pitch you through your Tero link, but there is no update channel. AngelTrack covers updates and documents but reads nothing and runs no diligence. Most angels pair one of each.
How much do these tools cost for an individual angel?
At the time of writing: Tero is free, then plans from £10 a month. Haatch's EIS Traaker is free. AngelTrack costs £25 a month after a 90-day trial. Dealum's investor plan is €33 a month. SeedLegals membership is £499 a year. Startup Due Dil's angel plan is $449 a month.
    Tero runs these checks automatically.
